Sami Attam is a dance done to appease and potentiate Goddess. It is known to free people of all negative energies and purge all toxins in the blood caused by unpleasant events in one's life which might throw a person in inaction. Although rural it is a known psychological tool to free one of all inhibitions and be one with God. People fling all their inhibitions and dance to loud sounds of drums, cymbals and other heavy bass music. It is a belief in Tamilnadu that sami attam cures infertility, family discord, sexual impotency or mental negative thinking. It also cures people who have been troubled by other castes and religions impingement in their sacred domains.
